IM for E-Learning?

What more can IM do for us? There must be much potential waiting for us to be explored. We believe that IM can definitely benefits E-learning and enterprise communication efficiency but the general acceptance? Still leave it in doubt......

Following is an article posted by Mark back in 2004. He mentioned some good points about the convenience nature that only IM could offer. We're glade that Gogrok is heading the right direction.

Does instant messaging (IM) have a place in an effective eLearning system? I think it can, although many may disagree, especially when it comes to K-12 education. With many parents, instant messaging has come to be known as one of the "bad things" that their children do on the Internet, one of those things that it not education. But I think that instant messaging can become an important and necessary part of any eLearning solution. The reason is that instant messaging is a form of synchronous communication, and this type opf communication is a necessary part of the learning process. It is especially more important when the learner is accessing the eLearning environment from a remote location, in which there is no local synchronous communication with other students and/or instructors. Teamwork and collaboration are very important skills for students at any level to have. While team work and collaboration can be done via email, this is not enough. Email is asynchronous, and has obvious limitations as a communications medium. True eLearning requires a rich communications element, and I think that IM should be part of that.

Do You Grok??

What is Gogrok? You may get the basic idea from the word grok in its name.


To grok something is to understand something so well that it is fully absorbed into oneself. The word grok is introduced by Robert A. Heinlein in his science fiction novel "Stranger in a Strange Land"in 1961. The word derives from Martian in the novel and originally means "to drink" but metaphorically means "to take it all in", "to understand fully", or "to be at one with." It can do much more than just text and voice chatting. It enables different users to view at the same screen and to work at the same file. It's a convenient tool you must have!
